How Palau’s Ministry of Education Transformed Learning with Google Workspace for Education Plus

Today, Palau’s schools are more connected than ever.
The Ministry of Education in the Republic of Palau’s mission is to guide the education journey of over 2,600 students aged 5-17 years old. With 16 public and 6 private schools across the island, it requires clear communication and reliable technology.
The Challenge: When communication stops
Before upgrading, the Ministry relied on costly open-source software to handle emails and document sharing. As expenses grew, they tested a free version of Google Workspace. However, they soon ran into a critical problem: a wave of spam emails caused the system to experience a two-week outage.
For fourteen days, online collaboration came to a standstill. The Ministry needed a secure, permanent solution to connect teachers, administrators, and students with no downtime.

The Solution: A seamless one-day transformation
To solve these challenges, MOE Palau partnered with GSA to upgrade Google Workspace for Education Plus, purchasing 2,563 licences for their school system.
With GSA’s guidance, the turnaround was fast and smooth:
- One-day upgrade: GSA resolved the downtime issue and successfully transitioned the entire system to Education Plus within a single day.
- Hands-on training: GSA led three workshops to make sure stakeholders felt confident using new tools.
- Better security: The upgrade immediately solved the spam and security issues that had caused earlier disruptions.

While Gmail remains the most popular tool for daily communication, GSA’s training opened the door to a whole new world of collaboration. Today, teachers, school leaders and students work together seamlessly. They are not only sharing documents but are also exploring advanced tools like Gemini and Gemini Notebook to enrich the classroom experience.
